Detailed Travel plan for 10 days Rwanda congo Gorilla Safari tour, Gorilla Trek in Africa
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali International Airport to Nyungwe Forest National Park.
Upon arrival at Kigali international airport , you will be welcomed by the experienced tour guide of Active African Vacations Ltd ( Primate Safaris Rwanda ) and start the journey to Nyungwe forest national park the best destination for chimpanzee spotting and other primates in Rwanda.
Along the journey you will stop on near by Genocide memorials to drawn a clear picture of what took place in 1994 Rwandan Genocide and later proceed to Nyungwe forest national park. Lunch will be en route , the journey is likely to take around 7 hours. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Guest house.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking in Nyungwe Forest National Park Rwanda
Nyungwe forest national park is located at the borders of Rwanda and democratic republic of congo , number one destinations for spotting the primates in Rwanda including the Chimpanzees, Monkeys and its a top birding national park of rwanda.
you will woke up very early in the morning and be ready by 5 am in the morning and drive to the park where you will meet the guide from the park and proceed to cover 1.5 hours journey to reach the sector where chimpanzee tracking is done , enter into the journey and start the search for the chimpanzee.
Once found you will stay with the chimpanzee for one hours and later return to the park and proceed to drive to the Rwanda Congo Border ( Rusizi 1 ) and cross to Democratic republic of congo . Lunch will be packed lunch and spend your dinner and overnight at Orchids Safari lodge or Hotel Begonias.
Day 3: Gorilla Habituation in Kahuzi Biega National Park
You will have early morning breakfast from the hotel and have your packed lunch , jump into the landcruiser safari jeep to drive for 1.5 hours from Bukavu town to Kahuzi biega national park headquarters where you will be briefed about the gorilla habituation rules and regulations as conservation measures of these apes in their wilderness , coffee is offered at the park at free cost.
After you will drive to the starting point of the gorilla habituation experience where you view the gorillas for 4 hours from the time you have met them if its habituation yet for those that are doing gorilla trekking experience , you will have only 1 hours to stay with the gorillas as you will be watching them play , feeding the young ones in the wilderness . Return to the park headquarter and do check in at the lodge ( Kahuzi Biega National Park Safari Lodge).
Day 4: Lwiro Volunteering Tour to Chimpanzee Orphanage Centre.
After morning breakfast at the Kahuzi biega Safari lodge, you start to drive for the 30 minutes to the sector of kahuzi biega national park where lwiro chimpanzee sanctuary is located and get engaged in the volunteering tour of feeding the orphanage chimpanzees that have been recovered from local communities and other threats that might have killed their mothers.
This Volunteering exercise including feed the chimpanzees , and even seeing other primates with in the lwiro . You will return to the lodge for Lunch and in the afternoon you will visit the coffee plantations or optionally bike Cycling in the local communities near the park.Dinner and overnight at Kahuzi biega Safari Lodge.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Kahuzi Biega National Park ( Magic gorilla viewing)
You will wake up on the normal day and enjoy your breakfast at the lodge , and walk to the park headquarter for briefing about the gorilla trekking rules like the case it was on the gorilla habituation experience day . You will visit another group of gorillas to enjoy the magical viewing of the Eastern lowland gorillas for one hour with trained rangers of the park .
After gorilla trekking you will return to the lodge for hot lunch . Relaxing at the lodge as you may take an optional community Walk around the near by areas ( Guided Walk) . Dinner and overnight as Above .
Day 6: Transfer to Virunga National Park
You will have a relaxed morning as you will start to drive back to Bukavu town at orchids Safari lodge from where you will get the speed boat to transfer you from Bukavu town to Goma town the biggest city near virunga National park in Eastern Congo.
Upon arrival at Lac Kivu Lodge for lunch , you will be welcomed by another team of Experts from primate Safaris rwanda and transfer you to Bukima Tented camp for Dinner and over night in the wilderness of Virunga National park , the Africa’s oldest national park that was renamed in 1962 after congo attaining its independence.
Day 7: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park’s oldiest national park in Africa
You will enjoy your breakfast in the tented camp and later walk to the briefing point of the gorilla trekking rules and regulations.
Upon learning the various gorilla families in Congo’s virunga national park, you will start the walk into the jungle for the gorilla trekking experience.
Depending on the gorilla trekking family the warden has offered to you , incase it requires some driving to the starting point , you will search for the gorillas and once found you will stay with them for one hour and return to the lodge for evening relaxation. You will drive in the evening to Kibumba Tented Camp located at the adge of virunga National park allowing you to view the Virunga mountains . Dinner and overnight at Kibumba Tented Camp.
Day 8: Nyiragongo Hike the world’s largest lava lake
As its well known that Nyiragongo hike is among the top dream of every traveler that primate Safaris rwanda decides to take to democratic republic of congo for an ultimate congo safari experience.
You will woke up early morning and enjoy your breakfast, and drive to Kibati station where the breifying about the Nyiragongo climbing tour is done . Upon arrival at the station , you will be registered by the guide and he secure that you have the mikeno packages ( learn its a must for travelers visiting Nyiragongo ) .
The Climbing activity mostly starts at 9 or 10 am and you will start with the vegetation forest type of cover and it will keep changing as the attitude changes. Lunch will be enroute and prepare enough water as it has over 4 stop overs when relaxing for 30 min. Dinner and over night at Nyiragongo Volcano Summit Shelters.
Day 9: Descending Nyiragongo Volcano
After morning breakfast mostly served at 5 am , you will start to descend down the hill from 6 am and your likely to arrive at the base at 11am as you will pass on other travelers who will be hiking to the top of the World’s largest lava.
Upon arrival at the base , you will be joined by the tour guide and transfer you to Goma for a city tour and later proceed to cross the border to Rwanda and enjoy your overnight at Serena Lake kivu hotel. Relaxing on the lake Shoes & Beaches in Rwanda.
Day 10 Transfer to Kigali International Airport for Flight back home
After morning breakfast at the hotel , you will do boat cruise on the precious lake kivu which is shared by Rwanda and Congo and later start the journey to drive back to Kigali for the evening flight back home .
Lunch will be enjoyed in Kigali as the last day . In case your flying out late night , You will visit the Genocide memorials and even do last city tour of the most cleaned city in Africa with a professional Guide of Primate Safaris Rwanda.
